Cheap dinner ideas from Kroger deals

Updated

How to turn this week’s Kroger sale into dinners that cost a few dollars a serving, with the proteins, produce, and pantry items Penny Meals found on sale.

Five cheap dinners to build from any week’s sale

  1. Sheet-pan dinner. A marked-down protein (sausage, chicken thighs, or pork chops) roasted on one pan with whatever vegetable is on sale. One pan, about 40 minutes.
  2. Rice or grain bowl. Cheap rice or a bag of grains, a sale protein or a can of beans, and a fresh or frozen vegetable. Top with any sauce you already have.
  3. Pasta night. A box of pasta, a jar of sauce or canned tomatoes, and whichever meat or vegetable is cheapest this week. It feeds four for a few dollars.
  4. Soup or chili. Canned beans and tomatoes with ground meat or vegetables on sale. Makes enough for a second dinner.
  5. Breakfast for dinner. Eggs, bread or tortillas, and a sale vegetable or potatoes. The cheapest dinner most weeks.
