Ingredients

Prices are from Sprouts the week of October 11, 2026. Sale prices change every week and differ by store.

Steps

  1. Start the sweet potato fries in the oven at 400 degrees F.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat, add diced onion and minced garlic, and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
  3. Stir in cumin and paprika, then add the crushed tomatoes and bring to a simmer.
  4. Make four shallow wells in the sauce and crack one egg into each, then cover and cook over low heat until the egg whites are set but the yolks still jiggle, about 8 to 10 minutes.
  5. Plate the hot sweet potato fries alongside the shakshuka, sprinkle with cilantro if using, and season with salt and pepper.

Why it’s cheap

2 of the 10 ingredients were on sale at Sprouts the week of October 11, 2026, led by happy egg heritage eggs at $6.99.

Penny Meals prices a dinner by the share of each package you actually cook, adds an estimated shelf price for anything that wasn’t on sale, and counts pantry staples like oil and salt as free. That came to $4.00 a serving, or $8.00 for 2 servings.
