Ingredients

Prices are from Walmart the week of October 11, 2026. Sale prices change every week and differ by store.

Steps

  1. Heat the ready-to-heat rice pouch according to package instructions, about 2 minutes, and set aside.
  2. While rice heats, beat eggs in a bowl and quarter the grape tomatoes.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, scramble the eggs until cooked through, then set aside.
  4. Add remaining oil to the skillet, mince garlic and ginger into it and stir 30 seconds, then add rice and tomatoes, breaking up any clumps.
  5. Return eggs to the skillet, add soy sauce and sesame oil, tossing everything together over heat for 2 minutes, then top with scallions if using.

Why it’s cheap

2 of the 9 ingredients were on sale at Walmart the week of October 11, 2026, led by authentic royal ready-to-heat long grain white basmati rice at $1.42 instead of $1.88.

The sale items rang up $1.35 under their regular prices.

Penny Meals prices a dinner by the share of each package you actually cook, adds an estimated shelf price for anything that wasn’t on sale, and counts pantry staples like oil and salt as free. That came to $1.11 a serving, or $3.33 for 3 servings.
