Ingredients

Prices are from Publix the week of October 4, 2026. Sale prices change every week and differ by store.

Steps

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, add ground chuck and cook stirring often until browned, about 8 minutes.
  2. Pour off excess fat, stir in sloppy joe sauce and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. In a bowl toss coleslaw mix with dressing, salt and pepper.
  4. Toast buns lightly if desired, spoon sloppy joe mixture onto each, top generously with dressed coleslaw.

Why it’s cheap

4 of the 8 ingredients were on sale at Publix the week of October 4, 2026, led by publix ground chuck at $4.99 instead of $8.99.

The sale items rang up $8.54 under their regular prices.

Penny Meals prices a dinner by the share of each package you actually cook, adds an estimated shelf price for anything that wasn’t on sale, and counts pantry staples like oil and salt as free. That came to $1.28 a serving, or $5.12 for 4 servings.
