Ingredients

Prices are from Publix the week of October 11, 2026. Sale prices change every week and differ by store.

Steps

  1. Peel and cut the squash into half-inch cubes. Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add squash cubes and cook without stirring for 4 to 5 minutes until golden on the bottom, then stir and cook 4 to 5 minutes more until tender. Transfer to a plate.
  3. Slice hot dogs in half lengthwise, then cut into half-inch pieces. Add remaining oil to the same skillet and cook hot dogs over medium-high heat for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring once, until browned.
  4. Add spinach, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Stir until spinach wilts, about 2 minutes. Return squash to the pan, toss together, and serve.

Why it’s cheap

4 of the 7 ingredients were on sale at Publix the week of October 11, 2026, led by stahl-meyer hot dogs at $0.83 instead of $1.65.

The sale items rang up $5.71 under their regular prices.

Penny Meals prices a dinner by the share of each package you actually cook, adds an estimated shelf price for anything that wasn’t on sale, and counts pantry staples like oil and salt as free. That came to $0.98 a serving, or $3.92 for 4 servings.
