Ingredients

Prices are from Dollar General the week of October 11, 2026. Sale prices change every week and differ by store.

Steps

  1. Cook the rice side according to package directions while you prepare the vegetables.
  2. Dice the bell peppers and onion into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the hot dogs, browning them on all sides for 4 to 5 minutes.
  4. Push the hot dogs to the side and add the peppers and onion, cooking until softened and lightly browned, about 6 to 8 minutes.
  5. Season with salt and pepper, then serve the hot dogs and vegetables over the cooked rice blend.

Why it’s cheap

2 of the 7 ingredients were on sale at Dollar General the week of October 11, 2026, led by hot dogs at $0.75 instead of $2.25.

The sale items rang up $1.85 under their regular prices.

Penny Meals prices a dinner by the share of each package you actually cook, adds an estimated shelf price for anything that wasn’t on sale, and counts pantry staples like oil and salt as free. That came to $0.94 a serving, or $3.76 for 4 servings.
