Ingredients

Prices are from Walmart the week of October 4, 2026. Sale prices change every week and differ by store.

Steps

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Chop and sauté onion and celery with minced garlic until soft, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add tomato paste and Cajun seasoning, stir for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Add chicken broth and bring to a boil. Add frozen crab and corn, reduce heat to medium, and simmer for 10 minutes until crab is heated through.
  4. Season with salt and pepper. Serve over cooked rice.

Why it’s cheap

2 of the 11 ingredients were on sale at Walmart the week of October 4, 2026, led by wild caught gumbo crabs at $4.00 instead of $8.76.

The sale items rang up $5.10 under their regular prices.

Penny Meals prices a dinner by the share of each package you actually cook, adds an estimated shelf price for anything that wasn’t on sale, and counts pantry staples like oil and salt as free. That came to $1.63 a serving, or $6.52 for 4 servings.
