Ingredients

Prices are from Wegmans the week of October 4, 2026. Sale prices change every week and differ by store.

Steps

  1. Peel and chop carrots into 1-inch chunks. Peel potatoes and cut into 1-inch cubes. Dice onion.
  2. Heat butter in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add onion and cook 3 to 4 minutes until softened. Sprinkle flour over onion and stir constantly for 1 minute.
  3. Pour in beef broth and add beef with its liquid, tomato paste, carrots, and potatoes. Stir in salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover and simmer 30 minutes until vegetables are tender.
  4. While stew simmers, place biscuits on a baking sheet according to package directions and bake at 400 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Taste stew and adjust seasoning. Serve in bowls topped with a warm biscuit.

Why it’s cheap

2 of the 11 ingredients were on sale at Wegmans the week of October 4, 2026, led by keystone all natural beef at $3.99 instead of $7.49.

The sale items rang up $4.49 under their regular prices.

Penny Meals prices a dinner by the share of each package you actually cook, adds an estimated shelf price for anything that wasn’t on sale, and counts pantry staples like oil and salt as free. That came to $2.52 a serving, or $10.08 for 4 servings.
