Ingredients

Prices are from Winn-Dixie the week of October 18, 2026. Sale prices change every week and differ by store.

Steps

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook pasta until just tender, about 10 minutes. Reserve 1 cup pasta water, then drain.
  2. While pasta cooks, mince garlic and rinse and drain lentils. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add garlic and cook 1 minute until fragrant. Add spinach in handfuls, stirring as it wilts, about 3 minutes total.
  4. Stir in lentils, lemon juice, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper. Add 1/4 cup pasta water and simmer 2 minutes.
  5. Toss hot pasta with the lentil and spinach mixture, adding more pasta water as needed to make a silky sauce. Divide among bowls.

Why it’s cheap

2 of the 9 ingredients were on sale at Winn-Dixie the week of October 18, 2026, led by barilla traditional pasta at $1.25.

Penny Meals prices a dinner by the share of each package you actually cook, adds an estimated shelf price for anything that wasn’t on sale, and counts pantry staples like oil and salt as free. That came to $1.25 a serving, or $5.00 for 4 servings.
